They did not put undefined as one of the answers... It is generally better to leave it as undefined, not zero. Aristosseur is right, learn more about math before you claim what is right and wrong. Do not ask us to explain it. If you do not understand, it is your problem for your lack of understanding of math and research: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limit_of_a_function> Go to "Definition." It is the first few sentences under the heading. Hope that helps you somewhat. Since I cannot explain this better myself concerning infinity, this kind person settles the question: <http://math.stackexchange.com/questions/28940/why-is-infinity-multiplied-by-zero-not-an-easy-zero-answer>. It is the second post by Alex. NOT THE FIRST POST. The problem with claiming it is 0 is that you did not give concrete definition for infinity. If you say infinity is a real number, then the argument of adding zeroes forever is zero will technically work. Let I be infinity. <I*0=0+0+0...+0=0>. However, in the field of mathematics, infinity is not a number, even though it is often treated as one (by people not well educated in math). Real numbers are pi, 0.32, 65/3, 2^(0.5), -684357, and so on. Yes we know infinity is a really big number, but infinity does not mean putting "..." in an equation and it will be satisfactory. You cannot treat infinity like a natural number put however many zeroes into "..." that is necessary. "!=" means "not equal." If you can understand <2b!=2+b> or <1-3*2!=4> when you first started algebra, it is the same idea with infinity now. You cannot base things off of your intuition and say it is right. Any sensible math student will know better than to trust their intuition and false logic. If in doubt, look it up. Take imaginary numbers for example: We know that: 4^(0.5)*9^(0.5) (4*9)^(0.5) 36^(0.5) 6 However, to a beginner in algebra, it is very tempting to treat <-4^(0.5)*-9^(0.5)> in the same way as <4^(0.5)*9^(0.5)>: -4^(0.5)*-9^(0.5) (-4*-9)^(0.5) 36^(0.5) 6 In fact, <-4^(0.5)*-9^(0.5)!=(-4*-9)^(0.5)> because imaginary numbers are not real numbers, you do not treat them the same. What applies to real numbers do not apply to imaginary numbers. Here is the correct way: -4^(0.5)*-9^(0.5) (2*i)(3*i) 6*i^(2) 6*-1 -6 The idea behind this example is to show that intuition will lead you to nowhere in math, and to also show that since infinity is not even a well defined number in mathematics, let alone imaginary, you cannot just apply the same rules for real numbers to an idea such as infinity. So far that I know, from Wikipedia, measure theory is the only one that recognizes <I*0=0>. I hope this helps improve your attitude and understanding of math and logic as a whole. @Aristosseur As an American myself, I know that American compulsory education is crap when dealing in subjects using any amount of logic. Higher education in universities is much better though. @Gardevoir There is no such thing as an "american way of mathematics." Shame on you to use the name of America in vain. Not even a patriot will sully America with such boasts and pride. Please do not make the rest of America look any dumber than we need to.

America to me died when they decided that they wanted to isolate me from my peers at school for being a "socialistic unamerican terrorist" just because I was reading about Karl Marx. So please, if your going to "shame on me" make sure you have reasons other than a pointless thread on afterwind and me being a retard trying to think of ideas to solve the damned thing.

Let's make a function 3x * (5/x). As x gets closer and closer to 0, 3x approaches 0 as well. However, the 5/x part approaches infinity. If we simplify the original function, we get 15 * (x/x). As the x goes to 0, the (x/x) part becomes 0 * infinity, which is what all the stupidity in this thread was about. But since this is concerning x "approaching" 0, as opposed to being equal to 0, we can cancel x/x to be equal to 1. So in this case, infinity * 0 is sort-of-kind-of equal to 15. If you used a different function, you could get 16, or pi, or any number, as an answer. So, short answer, for the layman, infinity times zero cannot be done under normal conditions, and is a totally meaningless quantity by itself. Infinity is not a number. Someone lock this fucking thread.

I feel u gardevoir, america is real condescending of extremists or curiosity in extremists. I started reading Marx in 10th grade, moved on the Engles, Hegel, Ricardo, all those fun guys. One of my teachers tried to suggest my avid reading of these economists/philosphers was distracting my studies and that they were just a bunch of socialists/fascists. mORAL OF STORY: USA is hypocrite
