No. This would make transports defend before other units like Marines, and defend at the same time as Militia and Tanks. Adjusting the attack or defence of any transport is a terrible idea. The upgrade "Safer Transportation" already adds defence to the unit. 13k SP.

Only way you could go ahead with your idea is adding a "Safer Transportation II" which adds more HP.

What desu says. I don't think that this is a good idea. Transports defending first would result in troops getting stranded all over the place. Another upgrade that adds HP is the only option.

No, like Desu said increasing defence will kill the battle system, so increasing HP for the unit by 1 would be good enough.

Yeah but I don't like it, it furthers the divide between players, you can't even attack transports currently very well, even if you have enough attack to its defense it's HP will defend well against even SM bombers. One of many examples is 1 SM bomber failing to destroy 2 STs, only one got killed. This upgrade would be OP and just make it even more difficult for newer players.

SM Air transports have 4 defence and that's good. Just protect your ATs, there are much better upgrade ideas
