- What is atWar Silverlight (SL)?
atWar Silverlight (or SL for short) is the original version of game, which is based on the Microsoft Silverlight browser plug-in. This version had existed in one form or another for the past 5 years.
- What is atWar HTML5?
atWar HTML5 is the new version of the game that is completely plug-in independent and will work in any modern browser (including mobiles & tablets). It doesn't require any additional installs and works right away.
- Why do we need to switch to atWar HTML5?
As per above, since the old version relies on a proprietary browser plug-in, it is not future-proof. Google Chrome, for example, have already dropped support for Silverlight this September and even the new Microsoft browser, Edge, doesn't support it. Inevitably, other browsers will follow suit. Another reason is that Silverlight doesn't work on mobile devices.
- When will the switch to HTML5 happen?
October the 7th, 2015 at 20:00 GMT (London time). Fancy countdown timer
- Why can't we keep both versions?
It is not feasable for us to keep maintaining both versions. It is counter-productive and time consuming. Another big reason is that there is already a big split in the user base (beginners mostly play HTML5, while others prefer SL), and we certainly don't want that.
- Why is atWar HTML5 so slow?
Unfortunately, HTML5 doesn't run all that well on older devices, though we are constantly making performance improvements. It might be worth trying to run it in a different browser (Chrome, IE11+ and Edge are supposed to be the fastest ones, currently).
- Why is atWar HTML5 so ugly?
It's not, you're probably just used to the old looks. Saying that, we are also constantly updating the user interface to make it more responsive and user-friendly.
- I've found a bug in the new version, what could I do about it?
Please submit your bug report to the Bugs forum. Make sure you provide us with a relevant information to help locate the issue quicker (screenshots, if possible and a short description). It is also possible to submit a bug report from within the game (the bug-looking button in the top menu).
- I'd like to suggest some changes to the new version, how can I do this?
Please use the Ideas & Suggestions forum.
- I am a map/scenario maker, what about me?
At the moment, we are still working on the map & scenario editors for the HTML5 version. For now, please use the Silverlight version for editing. It is exactly the same as before, and you can use your maps & scenarios in the new HTML5 version, so only the editing is done in Silverlight.
- What are your plans for the future?
After the release of HTML5, we have got huge plans for expansion, since HTML5 opens up completely new grounds for us, which include Steam, mobile apps and other types of platforms which were inaccessible to us due to the use of the proprietary browser plug-in before. Here's for the bright and exciting future for atWar!
