This is a general question to any American who is a Democrat. I could maybe understand why you would be a Democrat pre 2012, but it's clear the party no longer cares about the average American. If I was an American I know for sure I would be a proud red Republican. I'm actually curious to reasons why people will be voting Democrat in the 2020 election, I am looking forward to reading them.

PragerU is not an academic institution and their videos are blatant propaganda and lying. I highly suggest you research the validity of pragerU before you watch anymore of their garbage. I'm a democrat for the following reasons. 1. My stance on abortions and reproductive rights. 2. My stance on gay marriage. 3. I believe the government should do for the people what they can't do for themselves. This means social security, healthcare, and social safety nets. 4. Republicans are anti science. This would include but is not limited to: climate change, denial of evolution, creationism, abstinence only sex education, and many more. 5. The Immense amount of right wing propaganda paid for by rich billionaires in order to convince the public to make themselves even richer. Everywhere I go on the internet, it is just choke full of misleading and outright lies from the right. This also includes Fox News which is the nation's largest media company and complete shills for Republicans. Fox news is manipulative and outright lie to you. A good example is their coverage of the blackwater massacre of Iraqi citizens 6. Creation of the NSA to spy on american people. 7. The constant attempt from the right (Ajit Pai among other notable people) to constantly fuck over net neutrality and make the internet less free so companies can charge people more for internet service. 8. Right wing political reactionaries all over the internet. All those so called "anti sjw" people do more whining and bitching and identity politics than the people they complain about. 9. Right wing's unavoidable connection with white supremacy. This includes the entire "white replacement shit" , all the anti immigration rhetoric being tossed around, and the undeniable racism involved with all of it. The "southern strategy" connects the Republican party to all of this. 10. The party's policies do not favor my self interest. I vote for my self interest and the republican party primarily benefit the richest 1% at the expense of the rest of the country. 11. Republicans want to increase military spending at the expense of cutting fundings for education, healthcare, science (nasa). I can go on and on about all the reason why I vote democrat but I know that wont mean anything. You already made up your mind and drank the kool aid.

These are actually good points, thanks for sharing them. Also I'm not a fan of PragerU, I only like this particular video because of Tucker Carlson.

Let's be honest, there's a lot of kool aid being drunk on both sides. We're all guilty of it. It's human nature that it's hard to listen to facts that don't fit with our preferred world view. BUT, if you're willing to have an open mind about things, then read on:
What about the rights of the unborn baby?
This is conflating a religious issue with a political one... i.e. evangelical Christians are against gay marriage for religious reasons... this is not a Republican party platform.
This is a legitimate point of contention between 2 competing world views. Personally I don't want the government doing anything "for" me other than keeping the country safe from attack. Everything else is on me and I prefer the government to leave me alone.
Not true at all. I suspect a lot of this is, again, conflating religious issues with political ones.
What about George Soros? Dems have Soros, Reps have the Koch brothers. Reps have Fox News, Dems have CNN.
NSA was created during the Truman administration.... Truman was a democrat. Republicans are against domestic spying... I would point out people like Rand Paul who have been outspoken on this issue.
Net Neutrality is a misnomer. It seeks to add more regulation to the internet. More regulation != neutrality. To be truly free, we need less regulation, not more.
I could say the same about Left wing reactionaries.
I hate to even respond to this one because it's so ridiculous... it's like the "Have you stopped beating your wife?" question. The left always likes to make this smear without any basis in fact.... and yet we're supposed to collectively forget that it was the Democrats who promoted segregation and Jim Crow laws.
It makes sense to vote for your own self interest. It's small business people like me who get screwed over by Democrat policies (tax hikes, onerous regulations, government red tape). They always claim they are going after "big corporations" or "the top 1%", but then in reality it's us little guys who pay the price. That's why I vote Republican.
It's not a zero-sum game. Yes we are in favor of more military spending. I would be in favor of more spending on social programs too IF we got results from it. The Democrat reaction when something isn't working is always to spend more money on it. That leaves it to Republicans to have to be the "bad guys" and say "hey, this program isn't working, maybe we should cut our losses." From my side that's just using common sense.

You believe in the right of the unborn baby and I believe in the right of the mother and parents. Our morals and belief are different so we support different policies.
Republicans are without a doubt, the more religious party. Republican voters are more religious and Republican ideas and policies are often supported with religion. I choose not to vote for the party that has so many religious ties.
As for the NSA. It's my fault for poorly stating what I meant by NSA. I meant specifically the PRISM program created to monitor internet communication.
I don't support unchecked capitalism. I want a reasonable amount of government regulation to protect the public and consumers.
Both of us vote for our own self interest. Nothing surprising here.
Democrats are not the bad guy for trying to curb our absurd military spending either yet we are treated like it. We think the money is better spent elsewhere.

On a serious note, even though we disagree, its nice that we can have the debate. So often when I try to debate politics with someone of the opposite view point, it devolves quickly into personal attacks. So thank you for not doing that

23.01.2020 - 02:13 As for this debate I just wanted to give my 2 cents since I lack time but to me democracy is not to vote for his self interest, but vote for what's better for the community, even if it means voting against your interest. Otherwise it's just the law of the number, a lack of intellectuality and collectice thinking. What's good for you isn't necessarily what's best for you or your peers. I'm anti democratic myself so you guys just prove me how right I am to not believe in popular voice. USA is a plutucracy anyway, and the puppets are on both sides, the billionars are the real winners

The Democratic and Republican parties experienced a switch in the mid-late 1900s (Southern Strategy etc). The current Republican party isn't the same as the one that Lincoln once represented. If you look at people nowadays who subscribe to white supremacy etc, you can find the vast majority of them are Republicans. Ofc only a small percentage of Republicans are bona fide white supremacists, but you can wonder why the Republican party is so appealing to white supremacists and their ilk.

To be fair, the US electoral system is practically designed with stability in mind. Niche political interests (e.g. Greens, to use a British example) or time-sensitive political movements (e.g. UKIP) are set up to fail in the US system, even more so than they are in the British one.

Our parties are two sides of the same coin. Both are anti-God anti-family. One worships Mammon and the other Molech. btw: the video is basically correct. But it conveniently ignores all the Republicans who helped to gut the middle class with open borders policies. No mention of the Heritage Foundation, Cato Institute, etc... because Dennis Prager's buddies work at those think-tanks.

Being a staunch Democrat or Republican is like being in a cult- one party says billionaires "exist only because you took the money from others" whereas the other party will go as far as saying abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape or teen pregnancy. Have an independent mind, both parties have good and bad things. If you want to keep more of your money then vote Republican, but don't abide to all of the bullcrap the party spews.

You are both wrong. There's only one party that anyone with a working cerebral cortex should vote for: Republican. There are many different stripes, but any party is better than the Democratic party and its branch-offs like the Green Party. All abortions should be illegal and the mother should be prosecuted as well as the Doctor. The mother should have capital punishment and the Doctor should be sent to life in prison for aiding and abetting murder. This isn't unreasonable, and anyone who says otherwise is a left-wing loon. The Heritage Foundation, Cato, Mises, Fedsoc are fine... nothing wrong with them they are good organizations. Much better than the "American Constitution Society" or BDS... There's nothing "good" about the Democratic party and they have never done anything good for this country since... oh I don't know... EVER! Democratic party was the party of slavery, the party of Jim Crow, the party of abortions, the party of taxes, the party of WW1, the party of WW2, the party of Vietnam, the party of socialized medicine. They're sympathetic towards communism and Palestine and Iran and Venezuela and Canada and Germany and the EU...

Are you so stubborn not to allow abortions in cases of rape? Why would the mother want to keep the product of the most painful memory in her life, just to leave the baby in an orphanage? If the parents can't afford/ don't want the child and you would rather have the kid put in an orphanage, then you probably have never spoken to kids in orphanages. They grow up with a troubled and miserable childhood and have less chance to succeed in life. Then politicians complain about orphan delinquency and poverty rate and don't talk about what actually brought them in the situation in the first place- the fact that the unwilling parents decided not to abort the baby. There's a difference between protecting life and quality of life. Republicans are very strict on abortions to the point where fallacies are brought up in their arguments. The Democrats have a lot of flaws, but on the point of education they seem to understand the problem in a more wholesome way that Republicans- invest in schools and the children be more likely to a) stay out of trouble b) get into a good college and c) find a skill- appropriate job. The Republicans have many flaws as well, however fiscally they are correct that business freedom leads to economic growth. You can find some good points in both sides is what I am trying to say. The world is not black or white, it's grey.

I really don't want to debate you because this would just turn out really sad because you don't even have an argument, but I'll just clarify some things. With respect to the second paragraph (I'll ignore the abortion argument), you need to understand that there's an interplay of variables involved, which you're either deliberately ignoring or too stupid to recognize—you're only focusing on outcomes rather than the reasons they exist or why they exist. You need to ask higher order questions. There are relationships between these variables; for example, the notion that greater financial investment in public schooling would lead to less juvenile delinquency and greater chances at employment. You've completely dismissed the idea that college should be desirable in itself, you've completely dismissed different understandings of the role of government in society, and you've neglected to mention whether 1. correlations exist between those variables (which requires evidence) and 2. whether those are worthwhile pursuits that government or society at large should secure, among many other factors. Same applies to the notion that business freedom leads to economic growth. I agree with the sentiment obviously but I'm only suggesting that you need evidence and an understanding of why it causes economic growth and the trade-offs involved on both sides, left and right. The world is black and white if we're up against party that wants to kill your unborn children.
